Chocolate Pretzel Turkey bags

turkey

This was a fun project to do with my boys. We made these pretzel turkeys for their teachers (school and church). I was inspired by THESE pretzel turkey cups that my sister made. Since were were giving these away, I thought a bag would be better than a cup!

First step, dip the pretzels in chocolate. I used the Honey Wheat Braided Twists (instead of the pretzel rods), if only because I like the taste of these pretzels better ;)

I used red, orange, and yellow Wilton chocolate melts. I gave each boy a small cup with melted chocolate and showed them how to dip them. They also had a few lectures on ‘not licking the chocolate or their fingers until they were done’ and ‘only eat the broken ones’. Man they had a hard time with those rules!!

When they were done with the pretzels, and while the chocolate was drying, we worked on the bags. I printed out a coloring picture of a turkey head on sticker paper, and cut them out with my Silhouette. I also printed out a simple “I’m thankful for you” sticker that they could write their name on. So they worked on coloring those.

Stick the head sticker to one side of the clear cellophane bags and the “I’m thankful for you” (or “Happy Thanksgiving”) sticker on the other side, and fill with different colored “feathers” (the chocolate dipped pretzels), and tie it up.

The best part of this project was watching the boys hand them to their teachers! So stinkin adorable!!

The Mayflower

I saw this Thanksgiving Mayflower decoration yesterday (the day before Thanksgiving) and I had to make it. Overall it took zero dollars and just over a half an hour, including drive time to get the barn wood and sticks but minus the time I had to glue the old, broken wood back together :/

IMG_4134

First I had to load the boys in the truck and drive to our land (mile and a half away). There is an old barn there, so any time I want barn wood, there it is! I found a couple good pieces and some sticks and we drove home. 20 minutes max.

Then I traced out a boat shape. I tried to do it as similar to her Mayflower, I’m not an artist! Aaand, you can’t really see it. It’s in pencil…but it’s there. 2 minutes.

Cut it on the scroll saw. 3.5 minutes.

Ta da, the Mayflower.

But I had to fix a few mishaps with the old, warped, falling apart wood.

IMG_4128IMG_4131

I drilled some holes for the sticks and used construction paper for the flags/sails. 10 minutes.

Family Hand Turkey of 7!

IMG_4026

I made this turkey for my sister and her family. They have, count them, 7 people in their family. Makes for a pretty amazing turkey! I love the colors she chose, much different than the bright & bold colors in my family hand turkey.

Talk about A TON of feathers!!
IMG_4030

I love the dad & baby hands together, such a HUGE difference!
IMG_4031

And my favorite part of this turkey. I stamped the year and then the initial of their first name with their age on each hand. Great keepsake!

Family Hand Turkey

familyhandturkey
This turkey was inspired by this hand print turkey craft I saw. I almost replicated it, but I can’t pass up an opportunity to cut something out of wood, so instead I made our family hand turkey like this!
IMG_3666
If we had anymore kids in our family, this would be really plump turkey. The hands are about an inch thick, making it about 5” fat :) If you want one for your family, check out our etsy shop – Remembories.

This hand turkey also came in handy when we did H is Hands for preschool (lots of ‘hands’ in that sentence!). The boys really liked playing with them, matching up their hands and stacking them. Pretty fun & unique blocks to play with!
IMG_3677IMG_3683
One of my favorite things to decorate my house with is personalized décor. This definitely fits that requirement! Doesn’t get much more personalized than each of our hands and my 3 1/2 year old’s hand written “FAMILY” on the ‘thankful for’ pumpkin. Probably my favorite Thanksgiving/fall décor so far :)
