My friend has a goal to hit the 50 highest peaks in the 50 states. In talking to him about it, I thought it would be cool to make him a piece of art showcasing those peaks in a condensed way to show their height and general shape.
Each piece is laid out and placed according to the grain of the wood, then cut by hand on the scroll saw. I traced the top edge of each mountain piece on the next mountain piece above it, so it all fit nice and tight.
This is made from Doug Fir wood, including the frame. The mountains are hand painted with acrylic paints and the frame is stained.
The final dimensions are 17.5" x 13.5". Not pictured, "key" of highest peaks on the back!
